Nyege Nyege Team mourns Legendary artist Ekuka Morris Sirikinti.

On thursday, the team from Nyege Nyege festival, one of the internationally recognised festivals in the world joined the rest of the world in the mourning for the late Ekuka Morris Sirikinti Ogwal Adongo Wota Jo Aryo.

Nyege Nyege through their official facebook page wrote more about Ekuka as below;

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we gather today to bid farewell to our dear friend and extraordinary artist, Morris Sirikinti Ekuka Wot Adongo, known to many of us simply as Ekuka. His passing, on the very day he was to perform at Nyege Nyege, feels like a cruel twist of fate—a reminder of how precious and fragile life can be.

Ekuka was not just a name in Lango; he was a symbol of creativity, passion, and resilience. His music, woven through the thump of the okeme, reached beyond entertainment. It was a powerful voice for change, a bridge to understanding, and a source of unity for his people. His performances were not only musical expressions, but also potent platforms for social commentary. Through his melodies, Ekuka spoke about the issues that mattered most to us—about patriotism, the importance of taxes, awareness of HIV/AIDS, the need for agricultural growth, and the battle against domestic violence.

Ekuka’s ability to blend wit, wisdom, and humor into his music made him a beloved figure. He was more than an artist; he was a voice of reason and a beacon of hope for many. His commitment to using his talent for the greater good was unwavering, and it is that dedication to uplifting others that we will always remember him for. Ekuka’s songs were a call to action, a source of empowerment, and a reminder of our shared humanity.

Beyond his music, Ekuka was a friend and a true spirit of joy. His laughter was infectious, his presence was magnetic, and his warmth was unmatched. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind. We take comfort in the knowledge that his music, his messages, and the love he spread will continue to live on. Ekuka’s two albums are available on Nyege Tapes Bandcamp at a “name your price”, where all proceeds will go toward supporting his family and his final journey. Morris, Ekuka, we will miss you dearly. Your music will echo in our hearts forever, your laughter will stay with us, and your light will continue to guide us and generations to come.
With love, respect, and endless gratitude,
Your Nyege Nyege family.”
