18 Children Rescued in Wakiso After Trafficking Alert, Two Suspects Arrested
WAKISO — Police in Wakiso District have launched investigations into a suspected child trafficking case after rescuing 18 children from a house in Kakunyu Village on June 21, 2026.
The operation began after Namusera Police Post received a tip-off from local council leaders. They reported that a residential home in Kakunyu Town Council was sheltering an unusually high number of young children, aged roughly 3 to 12 years.
Acting on that information, officers moved in with support from local leaders and community members. Inside the house, they found 18 juveniles — 9 boys and 9 girls — living in just two rooms under conditions officers described as suspicious.
Early findings suggest the children were moved into Wakiso from Luwero and Masindi districts, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Two people were arrested at the scene and are now in police custody:
Mulindwa George, 33, listed as a teacher
Babirye Madinah, 24, a casual worker
Both are being questioned over allegations of human trafficking and related offenses.
The rescued children have since been placed under protective care. Police are working with child protection and social welfare agencies to trace their parents or guardians.
Wakiso Police are urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity involving children to the nearest station or local authorities.
They also advised any parent or guardian whose child has gone missing under unclear circumstances to report immediately to police. That information could help link cases to this ongoing investigation.
