A-49 year old man is on the run for allegedly assaulting his wife to death in Obugulu village, Lira-kato sub county in Agago district on Tuesday.

Acenyang Romulus allegedly assaulted Auma Margret (40) at around 5am.

According to the area LCIII chairperson Peter Odock Lari, the two had just returned from a funeral when a fight ensured resulting to the death of Auma.

The body of the deceased was later conveyed to Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo for postmortem.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident.

The latest incident comes at a time when such incidences are on the rise in Acholi sub region.

Last week, Bob William Labeja, the former Moyo and Napiripirit Resident District Commissioner (RDC) was arrested for allegedly killing his wife.

Since the beginning of this year, more than 10 cases of homicides have been reported to police in Aswa River region.

Agago is among the districts with high cases of assault countrywide.

In 2021, Agago district registered 354 cases of assault, placing it among the top ten districts with the highest number of assault cases, according to the police’s annual crime report 2021.

In an earlier interview, Geoffrey Ojok, the Senior Community Development Officer of the district revealed that they had registered 960 cases of conflict in the first six months of this financial year.
