Lira Cathedral parish  Catechist on Sunday survived death a group of thugs while he was riding to his duty station in the early morning

Patrick Stella Okwir who is an assistant catechist at St John Paul II chapel, Obutowelo, Lira Cathedral parish, was attacked a group of about five goons as he sloped down the Aduku road stage.

According to him, he left his home some 6kms away in Burlobo 5.00am to catch up with the 6.00am service when he met with disaster

“At around 5.45am I was sloping down the Aduku road stage when suddenly there appeared around 5 young men in front of me. Some grabbed my bicycle from the front and others from the rear” narrated Okwir, who appeared so traumatized the experience.

“They pushed me off the bicycle and I laid on my back. Immediately one of them pulled a knife and tried to stab me. At this point, I grabbed his very hand and cried out to him not to harm me. He left me unscathed and his colleagues grabbed my bicycle, bag, phone and money”, continued Okwir.

As they were about to conclude their mission, the now helpless catechist cried to his torturers for forgiveness.
“I cried to them that I am a catechist of Obutowelo going for 6.00am service and that at least they should return my bag which contains my cassock and prayer books”, narrated the now emotional catechist.

On hearing his pleas, the attackers came to their senses and returned all they had taken from ‘the man of God’ except money.

“On returning my belongings, my attackers fled the scene and left me in great pain.” narrated the catechist

He then rolled his bicycle few meters toward the chapel before collapsing. Afterwards, he made a few phone calls to chapel leaders who came and took him to a nearclinic.

At the time of compiling this report,Mr Okwir was at his home in Burlobo nursing injuries he attained during the scuffle.
