Tragedy Strikes: Rajiv Ruparelia Perishes in Fiery Busabala Flyover Crash
KAMPALA – May 3, 2025 – The city woke up to shocking news today as police confirmed the tragic death of Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, son of prominent businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, in a horrific single-vehicle crash at the Busabala Flyover in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to a press statement issued SP Kananura Michael, the CLO Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 1:54 AM at the traffic lights of the Busabala Flyover, situated in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
The crash involved a high-performance Nissan GTR, bearing registration number UAT 638L, which was reportedly traveling from Kajjansi in the direction of Munyonyo. Preliminary police investigations suggest that the driver, now identified as Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, lost control of the vehicle. The statement indicates the loss of control occurred after the vehicle collided with temporary pavements that have been installed at the roundabout section of the flyover.
The impact of the collision is believed to have been severe, causing the Nissan GTR to overturn. Tragically, the vehicle subsequently caught fire, a devastating turn of events that resulted in the immediate death of the driver.
“The vehicle subsequently overturned and caught fire, leading to the instant death of the driver, identified as Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia,” the police statement read.
The exact circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the powerful vehicle remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined the definitive cause of the crash, and the police have assured the public that investigations are currently underway to shed light on the incident.
