The recently concluded WordCamp Jinja proved to be more than just a gathering — it was a vibrant fusion of innovation, youth empowerment, and community growth. As a proud speaker and representative of MetaverseWP, I had the privilege to share insights on “Blending AI and VR into Sites”, a session that felt like launching into a journey to the moon and back, uncovering new frontiers of skill and imagination.
Hosted at Jinja Secondary School, the event was
the dynamic leadership of Mr. Mohammed and a stellar organizing team that gave WordCamp Jinja its unique flavor. A special thanks goes to the school administration for offering a conducive space filled with energetic and curious students — a rarity in most WordCamps.
What set this WordCamp apart was the strong student participation, making it a youthful and engaging experience. The curiosity and excitement of these young minds reminded us of why we do what we do — to inspire, educate, and innovate.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors who made this event a success:
MetaverseWP My Quest to Teach Automattic Team Jetpack WordPress.com and many micro-sponsors listed on the event charter.
A special thank you to my mentor and HOD, Mr. William Jackson, whose leadership and support enabled my participation along with that of other MetaverseWP representatives like Natasha, MACARENA, Jojjo, Hope, Freddie, and more. Your unwavering commitment to the African tech space is deeply felt.
Though I am Ugandan, this was my first time experiencing the Nile River up close, and it added a memorable layer of beauty to the event. The VR demonstrations during my session made many feel like they were touching another world, proving the immense potential of immersive tech in education and digital development.
To WordCamp Jinja, the Jinja Meetup, and the WordCamp Uganda community at large — congratulations on making this event a true colorway of collaboration, learning, and impact. I’m proud to have been part of this experience and look forward to more groundbreaking WordCamps across the continent.
