Who is Mrs. Natasha Museveni Karugire?
Natasha Museveni Karugire is the eldest daughter of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Janet Kataaha Museveni. She was born on March 12, 1976, in Tanzania during the time her family was living in exile because of political instability in Uganda.
Natasha spent part of her childhood in Tanzania, Kenya, and Sweden before the family returned to Uganda in 1986. She later studied fashion design and fashion marketing in London and went on to build a career in the creative industry.
In 2003, she started her fashion brand, House of Karugire, which became known for promoting Ugandan culture and African fashion. She is also a filmmaker, author and cultural promoter. Natasha directed the film 27 Guns, a movie about Uganda’s liberation struggle and later produced documentaries focusing on Uganda’s history and heritage.
Apart from fashion and film, Natasha is known for promoting African culture through writing, storytelling, and media projects. In 2020, she released her memoir titled What’s in a Name: Kainembabazi – Reflections of the Daughter of the Savannah, where she shared stories about her childhood, family and Ugandan heritage.
Natasha is married to Edwin Karugire, a Ugandan lawyer and businessman and the couple has children together. Despite coming from Uganda’s First Family, she is widely known for maintaining a calm public profile while focusing on culture, family, business and creative work.
