Kampala Archdiocese Announces Death of Rev. Fr. Viatory Muvunyi

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Rev. Fr. Viatory Muvunyi, a priest of the Archdiocese whose death has left the Catholic community in mourning.

According to the official announcement, Fr. Muvunyi, originally from Kiziba Parish, had been serving as a teacher at Uganda Martyrs National Seminary, Alokolum Ggulu. He was widely recognized for his dedication to priestly formation and his service to the Church.

Church authorities revealed that Fr. Muvunyi had been battling health challenges for some time. Due to his condition, he had been staying at the Archbishop’s residence in Kampala, where he was under close monitoring and receiving treatment.

His passing has been described as a great loss to the Archdiocese, particularly to the seminary community where he played a key role in nurturing future priests.

In his message, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere called on the faithful to keep Fr. Muvunyi in their prayers, asking God to grant him eternal rest.

“We pray that the Almighty and Merciful God may grant him eternal rest,” the Archbishop said.

Details regarding burial arrangements and funeral rites are expected to be communicated the Archdiocese in due course.

The Catholic faithful, clergy, and members of the wider community have continued to send messages of condolence as they remember Fr. Muvunyi’s service and commitment to the Church.
