Lango Sub-Region Leaders Formally Endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for 2031 Presidency

LIRA CITY — In a major political consolidation within Northern Uganda, leaders across the Lango sub-region gathered on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to formally launch a mass endorsement drive backing Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential race.

Organized under the auspices of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the event brought together prominent political, cultural, and community leaders—including National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament, local government representatives, and delegates from neighboring Karamoja and Eastern Uganda regions.

Key Highlights of the Endorsement

  • Signatures for 2031: Attendees signed a regional endorsement book pledging support for Gen. Muhoozi, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Supreme Chairman of the PLU, positioning him as the preferred candidate to succeed President Yoweri Museveni in 2031.

  • High-Level Mobilization: The drive in Lira City was spearheaded senior PLU officials, including PLU Secretary General Hon. David Kabanda and Lango Sub-Region PLU leadership led Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.

  • National Alignment: The initiative forms part of a broader nationwide campaign the Patriotic League of Uganda to gather grassroots signatures and consolidate regional backing ahead of future electoral cycles.

  • Political Implications for Northern Uganda

The formal backing Lango leaders marks a significant shift in regional political dynamics. Historically a stronghold of mixed political affiliations, the Lango sub-region’s explicit alignment with the PLU structure highlights growing coordination between national security leadership and northern political figures. Mobilizers at the event emphasized stability, continuity, and regional development as core pillars supporting their endorsement.

As the PLU continues its signature drive across various districts, the Lango endorsement stands as one of the most structured regional commitments yet toward Gen. Muhoozi’s long-term political trajectory.
